wolf point, montana

Tailwind

My boat of life sails on a troubled sea
Ever there's a wind in my sails
But I have a Friend who watches over me
When the breeze turns into a gale

I know the Master of the wind
I know the Maker of the rain
He can calm the storm
Make the sun shine again
I know the Master of the wind

Sometimes I soar like an eagle to the sky
Among the peaks my soul can be found
But an unexpected storm may drive me from the heights
It may bring me low but it cannot bring me down

The wind was at its best today. In fact, I don't think I've ever pedaled a day like this before. Our ride from Glasgow to Wolf Point was close to fifty miles and for the entire fifty miles we had a tailwind! Yep, a tailwind. There were times when I looked down at my bike computer, that the numbers were 19 to 22 miles an hour . . . and I wasn't even pedaling. And that went on for miles! Today the wind was our friend and helper. Even with three stops and two Blowpops we made it to Wolf Point and ate lunch before noon. Now . . . we plan to visit a bike shop and find a place to have an oil change and tire rotation.

A mile or two before we reached Wolf Point, a pick-up truck pulled up to Route 2, someone jumped out, and started running toward Phil. It looked like someone who wanted to do a welcome to Wolf Point fist bump. Well, Phil and the fist-bumper never connected so the fist-bumper turn and looked at me. I could see a bit of a smile so I figured I could get a fist-bump in and pedal on into town. As the distance between us grew small and smaller, I could see something in his hand. With my right hand on my handlebar and my left hand extended toward our new friend and encourager, I reached for and held onto the gift from this total stranger. It was two Blowpops. I got a little teary-eyed and could only think of this gift and yesterday's blog: Be Kind. Thank you, unknown encourager.

The Bible makes it real very clear that Jesus went about doing good. He was nice. He was kind. He loved. He encouraged. We should as well.

Give someone a Blowpop today . . . or at least a smile.

Be an encourager, the world has enough critics already.

Don't ever be too busy to encourage others.

Encouragement is one of those things that the more you give away, the more you have.

One minute of encouragement during failure is worth more than an hour of praise after a success.

Build up one another.
