woodland, washington

I just wanna ride my bike

pet a snake
eat a grape
run a mile
buy an ape

take a nap

row a boat

see a movie

kick a goat

play a fiddle

strike a pose

eat some French fries

pick your nose

take a hike

catch a fish

slap a pickle

make a wish

do a painting

read a book

squish a spider

learn to cook

write some music

plant a tree

take a drive

but not with me

have some fun

do what you like

I just wanna go

and ride my bike

OK, I am ready to get out of this car! I find myself thinking that I need to be out there. And I will be, Lord willing, Sunday morning  . . . and the earlier the better.

Today’s journey is much like the other days we've traveled. It’s like Yogi Berra once said, “It’s deja vu all over again. Really, all I had to do was change the starting point of the day to Pocatello, Idaho and the finish point to Woodland, Washington. We departed at 6:10AM and arrived in Woodland at 4:45PM. One of the reasons it was a long travel day was because it took us two hours to get through Boise due to a serious accident and road construction. When we got to Oregon we traveled on the south side of the Columbia River and looking across the river we could see Washington, our state where we’ll begin pedaling at Anacortes. Washington which is where I first experienced French fries with tartar sauce in 2009. I still like the combination and I may just have some tomorrow. There are a lot of things I’m looking forward to over the next two months and the different types of food from state to state is pretty high on the list. Look out Mom & Pop Eateries! I’m coming for you.

It’s been another Psalm 118:24 day, “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Just so you’ll know, I really don’t mind riding in the car. But I will be glad to pedal again.

I just wanna ride my bike.

  1. Barry, the way you describe the trip puts this reader in the car with you and Margaret. Can’t wait to get on a bike and “ride” with you and your friends. Blessings, friend, from Florida.

  3. Your poetry speaks to me. It draws me into another world where pickle slappers and nose pickers and goat kickers and ape buyers are not condemned for their idiosyncrasies but are instead applauded and encouraged in their pickle slapping and nose picking and goat kicking and ape buying. Thank you, Barry L Shettel, for your trailblazing efforts to make the world safe for people like me.
